Summer is well and truly here, and it’s hot! Whether you are spending a day at the beach, playing tennis, losing a round of golf or just working in an office, there are ways to stay cool in this heat wave.

What is a heat wave?

A heat wave is a phase of extreme hot weather that may be complemented with significant humidity, especially in countries with maritime climates like, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and so on. But recently, due to climate change, heat waves have affected millions of people around the world, especially Europe, Canada and the United States. With the increase in global temperatures, concurrent heat waves are becoming more frequent. Although this summer may go down as one of the hottest in recent memory, scientists warn that this could eventually become the norm. Researchers say the globe must reduce greenhouse-gas emissions that are driving temperatures to rise in order to avoid the impending reality of massive, protracted, and record heat waves taking over the summers.

In the meantime, it is essential to take necessary precautions to curb the effects of the heat wave this summer.

Stay hydrated

Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day—about one litre  (about two quarts) per day is recommended for adults—and avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages that may dehydrate you more quickly than water. You should also drink even when you don't feel thirsty. If you're exercising or playing outdoor sports like, golf or tennis, replace electrolytes and calories lost through sweating by drinking sports drinks or energy drinks with added electrolyte salt.

Dress light

Wear a hat to protect yourself from getting skin burns. If possible, apply sunscreen for even better protection from excessive heat. Wear loose clothing and avoid tight fitting or dark-colored clothing since these will retain more heat. Our Batik Tribute Polos and Solid Tees are a great alternative to normal clothing since they are consciously made, crazy comfortable, super breathable and super good looking, so that you can look cool and be cool outdoors during this heatwave.

Go organic

To beat the heat, wear organic fabrics. Organic fibres are more breathable and wick moisture away from your skin, so you'll stay cool even in hot temperatures. Try to find clothes that have zero or minimal synthetic fabric - they are more breathable. Our Solid Tees and Batik Tribute Polos are made from Bamboo Lyocell, an eco-friendly alternative to cotton and synthetic textiles such as polyester and nylon. Besides that, for every order placed, we have committed to planting one tree  in Southeast Asian rainforests allowing us to offset emissions, reinstate biodiversity and contribute to the fight against climate change.
